Interchromosomal Effects on Somatic Recombination in Drosophila Melanogaster.
نویسنده
چکیده
RECOMBINATION in somatic cells of Drosophila is influenced by various genetic and environmental factors that also affect meiotic recombination. Thus, the amount of somatic crossing over in a given chromosome is controlled by the genetic contents of the chromosomal set (WEAVER 1960) and by the presence of various genes (STERN 1936; KAPLAN 1953). It may also be affected by changes in temperature (STERN and RENTSCHLER 1936; KAPLAN 1953; BROSSEAU 1957) and by irradiations (RONEN 1962; ABBADESSA and BURDICK 1963). The purpose of the present paper is (1) to show that heterologous inversions, whose role in determining meiotic recombination has drawn much attention, also affect somatic crossing over. These interchromosomal effects are similar to those known from meiotic crossing over; (2) to demonstrate the employment of spontaneous and X-ray induced somatic recombination in studying the mechanism of the interchromosomal effects.

Interchromosomal Effects of Autosomal Translocations on Recombination in DROSOPHILA MELANOGASTER.
ETEROZYGOUS autosomal translocations have been shown to affect recomHbination in the X chromosome in various ways (HINTON 1965); translocations with long interstitial distances increased recombination in X, those with short interstitial distances decreased recombination in X, and those with intermediate interstitial distances had little or no effect. Other incidental tests of translocation hete...
متن کاملChromosome rearrangement by ectopic recombination in Drosophila melanogaster: genome structure and evolution.
Ectopic recombination between interspersed repeat sequences generates chromosomal rearrangements that have a major impact on genome structure. A survey of ectopic recombination in the region flanking the white locus of Drosophila melanogaster identified 25 transposon-mediated rearrangements from four parallel experiments. Eighteen of the 25 were generated from females carrying X chromosomes het...
متن کاملLack of an Interchromosomal Effect Associated with Spontaneous Recombination in Males of Drosophila Melanogaster
It is shown that the frequency of spontaneous male recombination in two different lines of Drosophila melanogaster (OKI and T-007) are not subject to an interchromosomal effect. Second-chromosome male recombination in these lines was not affected by heterozygosity for the multiple third-chromosome inversions In(3LR)TM3 or In(3LR)Ubx, which do affect recombination in females. It seems, therefore...
متن کاملConcentration dependent effect of morphine, aspirin, capsaicin and chili pepper hydro alcoholic extract on thermal and chemical pain model in fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster)
Introduction: Pain research using animal models is related to ethical concerns, so invertebrates and insects have been recommended by researchers. In the present study, the nociceptive and antinociceptive effects of capsaicin, aspirin, morphine and chili extract were examined using fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster) as an alternative for rodent pain model. Methods: Stage 3 of larvae and ad...
